Taking Back Sunday - Where You Want To Be
The second coming of emo superstars Taking Back Sunday opens with the line "I'm sorry it took me so long". Appropriate for it has been two years scince any must have album for an emo kid "Tell All Your Friends", was released.
Two changes in line-up and finally a U.K. tour later "Where You Want To Be" is in my CD player. First listen. Gutting. Didn't like it. Maybe I was expecting too much but I just did not like it. Couple hours later and I listen to it again. Emmmmmm yeah it's better than I remembered. Suppose it's not that bad. Now when I listen to it I quite enjoy listening to it. This album is a grower.
You could be forgiven for just turning on, listening to the first four tracks then putting something else on. In order of listing on the album, Set Phasers To Stun is a superb opener, Bonus Mosh Part Two is fast becoming my current favourite song, A Decade Under The Influence is incredibly catchy and This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) has beautiful lyrics.
Later on in the album and you hear "Number Five With A Bullet". Reminds me of "You're So Last Summer" of "Tell All Your Friends" with its continuous guitar line that compliments Lazarra's lyrics and voice extremely well. A very well written song. The album finishes on a good not also with "Slowdance On The Inside". A very emotional song and a great choice to end the album on.
So that's six great songs on an eleven track album. The rest are average except for the acoustic "New American Classic" which I think is terrible. Reminds me of a nursery rhyme and not something I enjoy listening too.
So to sum up a fairly disappointing follow-up from the Long Island emo supremos. Second albums are always difficult especially when following up a legendary one and this one does not do it for me. It does contain some extremely good quality tracks but many do not contain the same catchiness, passion or emotion as Tell All Your Friends.
